Fly Smart, Not Scared

Our perspective

Flying makes more sense when you know what’s happening.

Fly Smart, Not Scared is an independent aviation education publication created from an airline pilot’s perspective. We help curious passengers understand the aircraft, weather, sounds, and decisions behind their flights. Whether you’re a nervous flyer, seasoned traveler, or aviation enthusiast, we are here to provide information and answer your questions in an effort to educate the public about aviation from our perspective.

From the cockpit. For the curious.

The creators of FSNS are current airline pilots with combined experience in corporate aviation, cargo, experimental test flight and airline management. We built this publication to make the thinking behind air travel easier to understand, without losing the details that matter.

We look at what pilots consider, the tools available to them, and the reasons behind some of the most concerning, frustrating, and confusing aspects of air travel passengers experience. You don’t need an aviation background to follow along.

How we approach accuracy

We use authoritative sources, distinguish general concepts from aircraft-specific equipment and procedures, and review technical material before publication. Illustrations are labeled when they show a simplified concept rather than an airline specific operating procedure.

FSNS is independent and does not speak for any airline. Its articles are for general education, not flight training or operational guidance.
